Indian_Student_AustraliaAustralian community in Paramatta woke up to the death of an international student from India who died in Westmead Hospital after getting caught in the fire that engulfed his unit on Campbell Street in the city. Emergency services were called to the apartment block in Paramatta just before 2:45 AM.

When Paramatta police reached the place, they found the third-floor unit alight. Immediately, the 27-yr-old was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Another 20-yr-old was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

While the below units were evacuated, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the community has launched a fund-raising campaign to repatriate Raunak’s mortal remains to India. His friends and acquaintances remembered him as someone who would go out of his way to help someone. They said that he came to Australia in September 2019 on a student visa and had big dreams of completing his Masters in Networking and supporting his parents and younger brother back home.

The fund-raising was done on GoFundMe. Incidentally, Raunak was in his last semester and planned to go to India in a couple of months to see his family
