Indian-Origin-CEO-Sonia-Syngal-for-Reputed-Apparel-BrandIndian-American Sonia Syngal became the new CEO for Gap Inc which is America’s largest apparel retailer. She is the highest-ranked Indian-American female CEO of a Fortune 500 company after Indra Nooyi stepped down as PepsiCo head in 2018.

She was born in India and raised in Canada when her family migrated to the country. She got settled in the United States where she completed her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University and masters in manufacturing systems engineering from Stanford University.

Previously, she had worked in Fortune 500 product companies like Sun Microsystems and Ford Motor Co. She had shifted to Gap since 2004. There are just 33 women CEOs for the Fortune 500 companies which means just 6.6%. When we consider female CEOs of immigrant origins, the count becomes even less.

We join our readers in wishing all the best to Sonia in her new position.
