An Indian-American entrepreneur, Tanya Bathija (32), and her dog died in a fire that broke out at her Dix Hills cottage home in Long Island, New York.
Gobind Bathija, Tanya’s father, a businessman and a community leader, woke up early to exercise on December 14. When he looked out of the window, he noticed that the cottage was on fire.
He alerted his wife and called 911. They ran outside towards the cottage and attempted to get their daughter out of the fire. But the cottage was fully engulfed.
Two police officers and a sergeant tried to save Bathija, but the flames were too powerful. She died in the fire accident before fire extinguishers could fully extinguish the fire.
After an investigation, the Suffolk County Police Department confirmed the fire to be non-criminal.
Tanya Bathija was popular in the Hindu community in Dix Hills. After completing her MBA, she went on to become a prominent businesswoman. She had recently opened a Dunkin’ Donuts outlet in Bellport and had another one in the works for Blue Point.
A funeral took place at 10 AM on Sunday at Maloney’s Lake Funeral Home and Cremation Centre in Lake Ronkonkoma. A prayer service was held at 4 PM at Asamai Hindu Temple in Hicksville.
