Social Network site Facebook releases the data related to the censoring requests by governments for the content posted in its site to maintain peace or for social security reasons.
Facebook releases this data biannually. Unfortunately, India tops the list in a row for three years including this year.
In the first six months of this year there has been tri-fold increase in such requests by the Central Government. Facebook received 5.832 requests to remove sensitive content by the Computer Emergency Response Team under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. In the same period, Facebook received 4,496 requests from Turkey making its second country in the list and the third country with 295 requests is France. Recent uproar of international media regarding religion intolerance making India to stand in the cross roads on its policies.
