The Serum Institute of India Ltd. based out in Pune has partnered to produce at least one billion doses of the vaccine and it may get emergency authorization from New Delhi by December. CEO of SII revealed that 100 million doses will be ready by then.

“The initial amount will go to India. Later on, 50% of the produced doses will go to India and rest to Covax, the World Health Organization-backed body that’s purchasing shots for the poor nations,” Adar Poonawalla, chief executive officer of the SII revealed.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 150 Covid-19 vaccines are presently in development, with around 44 candidates in clinical trials and 11 undergoing late-stage testing.
