In a First, Telangana Deploys Airforce Fighter Jets for OxygenTelangana is seeing a big surge in number of Coronavirus cases with each passing day. With number of cases increasing and hospitals already rising alarm over lack of oxygen cylinders, the Telangana government has acted in the need of the hour.

In a first, Telangana government would be airlifting the oxygen trucks from Odisha to make it available for critically ill Covid patients. Incidentally, this is the first time such an initiative is taken up in the country. Health Minister, Eatala Rajender and Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar were present at Begum airport overlooking while the empty oxygen tanks getting into Airforce cargo jets.

The oxygen trucks will be filled at Tata Steel Plant in Kalinganagar and then would fly back to Hyderabad. Meanwhile, minister KT Rama Rao lauded the efforts, who tweeted, “My compliments to both Health Minister @Eatala_Rajender Garu & @TelanganaCS Somesh Kumar Garu who are supervising Oxygen tankers airlifting from Hyderabad to Orissa to bring back oxygen faster to Telangana – saving 3 days & many valuable lives. First time in India#NeedOfTheHour”

Telangana government had directed night curfew from April 20 till May 1 between 9pm to 5am amid steep escalation of covid cases. The state government acted after High Court sought an explanation by the government for what measures they are taking to curb the cases.
