Gannavaram Airport which was accorded with International Airport Status is gearing up for the Operations. The Airport has completed the Immigration Arrangements inside and Union Home Ministry will give orders for setting up Immigration Center in a couple of days.
Currently, Andhra Pradesh Haj Pilgrims are using Hyderabad Airport and with this clearance, they are likely to go for Haj Yatra from Vijayawada itself. Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu is said to have taken up the issue with the Union Home Ministry and made it happen.
On the other side, Andhra Pradesh Government is in talks with a few Airlines serving in international routes to start international flights from this airport. The government is ready to reimburse the losses of services initially to encourage them.
