The prestigious project of Telangana Government making the Hyderabad a Wi-Fi city will not be all free as proposed earlier. After the pressure from the Service providers and security and network concerns, the government has decided to make the Wi-Fi partly free and paid service. The government say this step is to ensure level playing field for the service providers and also will make sure that the network is not burden by free users.

Telangana government is also exploring the option of White-Fi, an upcoming technology. White-Fi is reported to have lower overhead costs than traditional Wi-Fi. The IT department of the state will very soon call for a meeting to discuss various security issues that may arise due to this service. The state government is planning to call for tenders before the end of this month for bids from telecom companies to set up infrastructure for Wi-Fi access across the city,
