Hyderabad-sankranthi-empty-At least 18 Lakh Settlers of Seemandhra region catch all possible means of transport – train, buses, taxis or flights to visit their native places for the first Sankranthi festival after the state bifurcation. As every year, Hyderabad roads wore a deserted look. Forget about the traffic jams, there is barely any crowd in the city. While the settlers start for their native, many things will run in their minds like how much they belong to the city and where does their future lie!

On the other side, this leave of settlers will also prove their importance to the city’s economy. It is estimated that commercial activity worth 300 Crore will come to a stand still in this festive season. Many tiffin centres, food courts and tea shops run by Seemandhra people also remain closed. Even many supermarkets have cut down the daily stock of various commodities till 18th of this month.

Meanwhile, Trains have shown ‘Regret’ status even after several special trains are announced. RTC is minting money by increasing the regular charges at least by 50% with 5,560 special buses kept for the service of the moving crowd. Needless to mention about the private travels as this is the biggest ever business season for them.
