Hyderabad Heavy RainsHeavy torrential rains battered Hyderabad on Thursday night, throwing life out of gear in some places. Though it was some respite from the summer heat, unexpected rains have been making the life of Hyderabadis tough for the last few days.

The recent heavy rains in several areas have caused problems such as water logging, inundation, and overflowing drains, compounded by fluctuating power and outages.

People working in the IT sector suffered a lot due to traffic jams caused due to these unexpected rains. Techies working the night shift had to make emergency calls to their managers to allow them to work from home.

Many who were waiting for their food deliveries from Swiggy and Zomato had to wait for hours to get their order. Even the cost of delivery was hiked due to the rains. Hyderabadis, who were looking to have a fun night at pubs and bars, had to cancel their plans as the nightlife also got affected due to these unexpected rains.

Meanwhile, the rapid growth of Hyderabad over the past two decades with high-rise buildings, flyovers, metro rail, and upcoming ring roads has increased traffic, population, and waste generation.

Seeing the larger picture, the urbanization and transformation of the city, particularly in the Cyberabad area, which houses major global technology companies and large residential complexes, has not been well-planned, nor with a clear vision for infrastructure such as drainage systems.

Despite its impressive external appearance, the city’s development has been lacking in proper planning.
