Hyderabad Outer Ring Road Travel to Become CostlyTelangana Government is going to hand over the responsibility of maintaining the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to a private agency on a Toll Operate Transfer (TOT) basis for a period of 20 or 30 years. The government is expecting 2000 Crore upfront payment for that.

The part of the TOT will cover the entire 158-km ORR by LED lighting, solar energy utilization and provision of wayside amenities along the ORR. Currently Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is responsible for the upkeep of the ORR.

But then, HMDA is struggling to do that due to a funds and manpower crunch, forcing it to look at handing over the job to a private player. The funds that are raised will be utilized for proposed infrastructure projects such as the construction of flyovers. Commuters are worried if this will increase the cost of the travel on ORR.
