Hyderabad Houses Most Child WorkersHitech Hyderabad which is the home for the IT Corridor is also home to the highest number of child workers anywhere in urban India, according to the report of UNICEF. The survey has found that as many as 96,892 workers in the age group of 5-14 years are employed in the city.

The report is based on the 2011 Census data, states that Hyderabad stood out as a ‘striking child labour hotspot’ in urban India with an incidence of 9.2%. The report says child workers are in large numbers in domestic work, construction and for manual jobs in the hotel and restaurant industry.

Experts attribute the rise in child labour in the city to the influx of migrants from other states, especially Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Telangana government has planned to eradicate child labour from the state by 2021 but those efforts have not yielded results so far.
