Telangana State Capital Hyderabad City may very soon go Delhi’s way. Telangana government is planning to divide the existing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in to three corporations. The existing corporation is being planned as three corporations – Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad municipal corporations. Government is of the thought that the division will help the development of all the areas.
This division will also bring political benefits to TRS as the party is planning to capture power of civic bodies with the help of its new ally, MIM. As of now, the TRS does not have representation in the 150-ward corporation. In 2012, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was trifurcated into North Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Similarly, Mumbai city has two corporations, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
