The capital announcement was supposed to create a storm in Andhra Pradesh Assembly with the ruling party deciding Vijayawada unilaterally. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the opposition leader first looked like fully set to nail down the ruling party but eventually fell in the neatly knitted trap by Chandra Babu Naidu. Jagan initially started with a voice that Vijayawada is not suitable for the capital and sensing his agenda to agitate Rayalaseema people and consolidate his base there, TDP immediately attacked Jagan saying he is against to the Vijayawada option and wants to have the capital in his Edupulapaya estate or his home constituency Pulivendhula.

With the extensive reverse attacking by the government, Jagan was forced in to a defensive mode to prove himself that he is not against to Krishna or Guntur district. In an occasion when Jagan was defending his father’s move to establish IIIT in Edupulapaya, Chandra Babu successfully used it to prove Jagan’s inexperience in broad daylight. Ultimately the young leader from Kadapa succumbed to the pressure and was compelled to “wholeheartedly” welcome chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to build a capital near Vijayawada.

It is evident that Jagan not only lost a golden opportunity to corner the state government but also made himself a joke in front of the entire state. Its high time Jagan revisit his Assembly tactics lest facing a 35 year politician and 3 time Chief Minister is not going to be easy at all for Jagan.
