YakubMemon-hanged-thursdayOne last attempt in the form of last-ditch petition was taken for hearing by the Supreme Court late in the night and early hours on Wednesday. Yakub Memon was convicted guilty for extending financial support for the execution of the Mumbai bomb blasts of 1993.

While his death sentence was due on 30th July on Wednesday, the final appeal for his life came from his brother. The apex court of India sat through the night and rejected the final plea. The lawyers tried to stop the execution in the midnight hearing by putting forward arguments regarding the reprieve to be entitled after rejection of mercy plea.

According to the latest available information, Yakub Memon was executed at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, after the rejection of the plea at midnight. The Mumbai Bomb Blasts convict was hanged to death and after proper postmortem procedures his body would be handed over to his family members.

While the security at Nagpur Central Jail is beefed up, high security alert in Mumbai and across the country is the present challenge for the security personnel while the last rites would be performed probably in Mumbai. An official announcement is pending regarding all the proceedings of the execution.

Yakub was woken up at 3.30 am, he offered namaz and read Quran before hanging. He was offered breakfast of his choice and detailed information was provided to him on why he is being hanged before the execution as per early reports.
