The much-hyped GST also seems to be going the Demonetization way. Traders and Shop owners are back to their old ways of Zero Business and are evading taxes. Almost all are offering Zero tax on cash payments to the customers and charge GST only on Card Payments.
To ensure that they save some bucks, customers are making the payments through cash. Some commercial establishments have even made changes to their software to give a printed bill to the customers but the transactions will not be saved in their database.
In such cases, they are charging GST from the customers but are not paying it to the government. In wholesale markets, the losses run into crores each day. Looks like GST may also end up as a failure for the government just like the Demonetization.
