Green Tribunal stays constructions in AmaravatiIn a shocking turn of events, the National Green Tribunal had issued a stay on the constructions in Amaravati, the upcoming capital of Andhra Pradesh. The tribunal had instructed the state government not to resort to leveling of land or taking up constructions there.

A petitioner approached the Green Tribunal alleging that multicrop lands were taken for the capital. He also said that the land is not suitable for high rise buildings and also have the effect of Kondaveeti Vaagu floods. He argued that the project as a whole do not have environmental clearance.

The petitioner says this stay will also apply to the foundation ceremony on 22nd of this month. It is interesting to note where this issue leads to. The state government had to go for an appeal and clear decks at least for the Foundation stone laying ceremony.
