Govt's Pressure Worked, Select Committee Stalled? An interesting twist has happened. Legislative Council Secretariat has sent back the file of Select Committee back to the Chairman. The council secretary reportedly wrote a note that it will not be possible to form the committee under Rule 154. TDP alleges that the Government’s pressure has worked on the Secretary.

It is known that Legislative Council Chairman MA Shariff had referred two bills – the ‘Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bill, 2020 and ‘Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill 2020’ to the select committee using his discretionary powers.

That has angered Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who moved a resolution to abolish the council. The council, however, will be working until the bill is passed in the Parliament and the President gives his assent. YSR Congress did not give its members for the Select Committee and tried to stall the committee formation.

TDP MLCs have met Council Secretary Balakrishnamacharyulu and told him that it is not right on his part to defy the orders of the Chairman. Speaking to the media after that, they went on to say they may approach the courts if necessary to bring the Select Committee.
