Government Orders Shutdown of Anna Canteens?YSR Congress Government has decided to shut down the operations of Anna Canteens which are providing quality breakfast and food at a nominal cost of Five Rupees to the Power. Akshayapatra which is operating these canteens was given oral instructions to stop the operations from August 1st.

Around 210 canteens will be closed from August 1st. During the TDP regime, each Anna Canteen would serve food to around 1200 people and after Jagan becoming the Chief Minister, it is cut down to 500 people per day. Now, they are being shut down in the name of a huge financial burden on the state exchequer.

This comes as a huge disappointment for the poor who depend on this food. On the other side, there are reports in the Political Circles that the government is planning to use these buildings to run wine shops. The government had recently changed the Excise Act to run the wine shops itself and would need rented buildings.

The government is planning to use Anna canteens buildings which are centrally located. But then, closing down food canteens and setting up Wine Shops in the place will certainly bring a bad name to the government. It has to be seen what they finally do.
