Retired Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, singer Guru Randhawa, and Bollywood celebrity Sussanne Khan were arrested in Mumbai after raiding a club in Mumbai. There were among the 34 people arrested after a raid at the Mumbai Dragonfly club near the Mumbai airport.
They were arrested for keeping the pub open beyond the permissible time limit and not following Covid norms. They were booked under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and provisions of NMDA.
However, they were later let free on bail. Maha Government imposed a night curfew from December 22 to January 5 as a precautionary step in the wake of reports of a new Coronavirus strain in Europe which is 70% more transmissible.
With Christmas and New Year coming in, there is a high probability of huge gatherings in pubs, hotels, resorts, etc in the name of parties. So, the Government had decided to be strict in enforcing the night curfews. Raina is yet to give a statement about the arrest.
