For the First Time, a Non-English Film Bags Top Honors at the OscarsFor the first time in Ninety-two years History of the Oscars, South Korean hit film, Parasite became the first film not in the English language to win the Academy Award for best picture. Incidentally, the movie also won the best international film.

The movie also won the best original screenplay and best director, for Bong Joon-ho. This film will inspire and motivate the filmmakers of non-English background to step up their creativity and come up with interesting films that can take the global top honors.

Winners in the acting categories were less surprising. Joaquin Phoenix won the best actor for Joker. Renee Zellweger took the best actress for Judy. Laura Dern was named best-supporting actress for Netflix’s divorce saga, Marriage Story and Brad Pitt snagged his first acting Oscar for his supporting role as a stuntman in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
