For Narendra Modi Government, Savings Begin at HomeUnion Cabinet meeting happened this afternoon and for the first, it was held through video-conferencing. The Cabinet had approved an ordinance implementing a 30% salary cut for all the Member of the Parliament for the next year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministers will also take the cut.

It is said that President of India, Ramnath Kovind and Vice-President, Venkaiah Naidu and several Governors also volunteered to take the 30% salary cut even though the Government did not insist. This money will go into consolidated funds of the Government of India.

Cabinet approves temporary suspension of MPLAD Fund of MPs during 2020-21 and 2021-22 for managing health and the adverse impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 in India. The consolidated amount of MPLAD Funds for 2 years – Rs 7900 crores – will go to Consolidated Fund of India

The Salary cuts were imminent as the economy is expected to slow down significantly for the rest of the year.
