National Green Tribunal will be having the final hearing on the cases filed by former IAS officer E.A.S. Sarma, Pandalaneni Srimannarayana and Rythu Sanghams demanding refusal of environmental clearances to Amaravati. NGT had directed all the parties to complete their arguments and pleadings in this hearing.
The extent of the floodplains of Krishna River and Kondaveeti Vagu is again going to be the key subject of arguments. There are severe allegations on the parties that filed these petitions including affiliation with YSR Congress. Srimannarayana is a 72-year-old retired journalist and political analyst.
A couple of months back, he faced the tribunal’s ire after he is seen collecting funds to fight cases against the government. CRDA officials, however, are hopeful of clearing all the hurdles. They say they have followed all the environmental guidelines to make sure Amaravati is safe and also the ecosystem there is not disturbed.
