Even in the COVID times, the craze for fancy numbers for vehicles is not going down. People are going to any extent to flaunt the fancy numbers on their posh cars. This craze for fancy numbers is filling the coffers of the Transport Department.
There are instances of fancy numbers going into Lakhs due to intense competition. On Wednesday, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office in Khairtabad started the bidding process of the fancy registration numbers in the TS09FR series. The department has got a whopping Rs. 29.14 lakh revenue on the first day itself.
The officials admit they did not expect such massive bids given the pandemic effect. The highest bid is for the 9999 number which fetched Rs 7.60 lakh. Meanwhile, the newly launched series TS09FS0009 number fetched Rs 6.50 lakh. In the same series, another bidder got the fancy number 0111 for Rs 1.20 lakh.
The details of the buyers are not revealed by the department for privacy reasons.
