Face lift for Kondapalli FortAndhra Pradesh government plans to develop the upcoming state capital a good tourist destination by developing several historical structures around the area. On the orders of the Chief Minister, the officials have already started giving a face-lift to the historic Kondapalli fort, 20 km from Vijayawada city. The 14th century fort, built by king Prolaya Vema Reddy is being renovated by the archaeology department.

The officials are administering chemical treatment to the historical structure, rebuilding some walls that are collapsed and other walls and arches are being repaired and given a fresh coat of paint to prevent rainwater seepage. The Central government has sanctioned funds for the renovation of the fort from the 13th Finance Commission and the entire works are going to cost Rs 3 crore.

Once the renovation is complete, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation will unleash a big publicity campaign for the fort and attract visitors. APTDC is also planning to develop a craft bazaar to market the world famous Kondapalli toys and other handicrafts of the district at the fort.
