Expert Committee to Decide Amaravati FutureDumping all the reports by various firms from Singapore and Japan in the previous government, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has appointed an expert committee that includes members from India with experience in urban planning. They were asked to reviews all the developmental plans initiated so far and suggest a report in Six Weeks.

The committee will also suggest a comprehensive development strategy for all-round development including in Amaravati. Interestingly, the committee did not have any member from Andhra Pradesh or Telangana and the government sources say this is to avoid any allegations of bias.

The committee includes Prof. Dr. Mahaveer, Professor of Planning, Dean (Academic), School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, Dr Anjali Mohan, Urban and Regional Planner, Prof. Shivananda Swamy, CEPT, Ahmedabad, Prof K.T. Ravindran, SPA (Retd), Delhi School of Architecture, Delhi and Dr. K.V. Arunachalam, Retd. Chief Urban Planner, Chennai.

The Government also asked the committee to co-opt one expert in Environmental Issues and Flood Management in the wake of allegations of Flood threat to the capital and various environmental norms violation. The report will decide the future of Amaravati.
