Empty Hand for Andhra Pradesh and Tummy Full for GujaratCentral Government had refused support to Andhra Pradesh to the prestigious Sagaramala project, which needs about Rs 25,000 crore. AP has the second longest coastline extending over 974 km and has planned to use this project for rapid industrial development.

Sagaramala is a series of projects aimed at improving the coastline and inland waterways to give impetus to industrial development. It is expected to reduce the cost and time for transport of goods through waterways.

But Center turned down the plea and Andhra Pradesh government will now be forced to scout for funds from other sources. At the same time, Central Government is providing assistance to the tune of One Lakh Crore for various projects proposed by Gujarat under Sagaramala.
