Earlier there were reports that the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect in Andhra Pradesh with MLC Elections and will remain until the conclusion of the General Elections. Andhra Pradesh State Election commission had finally clarified on this issue a little while ago.
“There is no Code for MLC Elections in MLAs Quota. There will be partial Code in the case of MLC Elections in Graduates and Teachers Constituencies,” Chief Election Commissioner Gopalakrishna Diwedi clarified. Partial Code means the code will be applicable only in the constituencies where the elections are on and not across the state.
This will mean that the Code of Conduct will come into force in Andhra Pradesh only after the schedule for Assembly Elections and General Elections release. As per the latest information, the Central Election Commission is planning to release the schedule in the first week of March.
