In an interesting turn of events, Diwali – the Indian festival of lights will be a public holiday in New York City.
As per the latest reports, New York City will observe a public holiday every Diwali from next year.
New York Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that the city will observe a holiday on Diwali starting in 2023.
In a brief statement, it was said that it is time to legalize the Diwali festival season- the festival of lights for over 200,000 New Yorkers who are celebrating it.
It was further stated that children will be encouraged to learn more about Diwali.
This should come as a sweet surprise to the Hindu community in New York who celebrate Diwali.
The Diwali holiday has been swapped with Brooklyn – Queens Day which is celebrated on the first Thursday of June.
