Did Jagan Play Safe with Narendra Modi?Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who is touring his native district, Kadapa announced that his Government will not implement the controversial NRC in the state. He has joined the non-BJP Chief Ministers in the state refusing to be a part of this controversial plan.

Muslims across the country are insecure about the NRC planned announced by Home Minister, Amit Shah. The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a register maintained by the Government of India containing names & certain relevant information for identification of all genuine Indian citizens. Muslims are of the opinion that they would be excluded and be detained in this exercise.

YSR Congress had supported the Citizenship Amendment Bill recently in Parliament but took a U-Turn on NRC. Huge protests are happening across the country against CAA and NRC. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to announce that they are yet to discuss the nationwide NRC.

Only after the Prime Minister’s Statement, Jagan said he would not implement NRC and thereby he played safe, Political Experts say. “It is unlikely that Jagan would poke the center on wrong side,” they say.
