Things were not easy for Telangana Bill in Rajya Sabha as Lok Sabha. The house was adjourned for more than 10 times in the day. Finally after 5 PM, the discussion started on Telangana Bill. BJP continued its support to Telangana but insisted justice to be done for Seema Andhra. BJP’s Arun Jaitley given a notice to the Chair that the bill is violating constitution.
Parties like Samajwadi Party, DMK, Trinamool Congress, JDU voiced their opinion against bifurcation and the process in which Congress handled the bill. Deputy Chairman Kurien even extended the Rajya Sabha timings till 8 PM to facilitate the discussion on the bill. Avoiding Amendments, Congress delivered few assurances like special status to Seema Andhra region through the Prime Minister and finally voting is done through voice vote. The amendments moved by BJP is defeated in the house again through voice vote.
The bill will now be sent to President for his final nod which is a mere formality.
