US Consulate HyderabadThe new US Consulate has started its operations in Nanakramguda in Hyderabad. It is a huge step in Indo-US relations as the Consulate authorities say it marks further progress in months and years to come.

What is interesting is the fact that the Consulate was built with a cost of US $340 million (Rs. 2812 Crores INR), which the Consulate sees as a long-term interest in bilateral relations between both countries. It is now located on a 12-acre site, and its mission is to provide safe, secure, functional, and resilient functions for US diplomacy.

The $340 million project included $70 million in local investment, and about 1000 American, Indian, and third-country people worked on it. Incidentally, the US Consulate in Hyderabad is the first diplomatic office to open in India after India’s independence. Till recently, it was housed in the famous Paigah Palace.

Also, one must know that the new US Consulate in Hyderabad is the largest US Consular processing campus in South East Asia, both in terms of the number of visa windows and in area.
