Coronavirus Important Lesson for Govts. Will They Learn?Coronavirus Pandemic has shown the mirror to the Governments in India about the poor medical infrastructure. Over the years, the Government had barely spent on medical infrastructure even though the current facilities are barely enough for the needs of the huge population.

As things stand today, the beds we have in the Government Hospitals today barely accommodate 1% of the total population. It took a faceless Pandemic for the Government to wake up and turn Trains, Stadiums, Function Halls, Schools, etc into makeshift hospitals and Quarantine centers.

Those in power and those who were in power were focused only on dolling out sops to Private hospitals in the name of schemes like Arogya Sri while the Government hospitals suffer from lack of bare minimum facilities. Now, that it has proved everything takes a backseat when it comes to public safety and lives, this should be an eyeopener and the budgetary allocations for health facilities should increase at least from now.

Telangana Government announced TIMS – Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, a 1500 bed Multi-speciality hospital, Research Center, and PG College in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. Its time more such facilities come across Telangana. And, the other states should also think in that direction.
