Coronavirus is coming with several other problems besides the known ones. According to the data released by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and partners, the Pandemic is likely to lead at least Seven Million unintended pregnancies across the globe.
These figures — produced in collaboration with partners Avenir Health, Johns Hopkins University (USA), and Victoria University (Australia) — are rough estimates. These pregnancies would be rampant in low and middle-income countries that have no access to use modern contraceptives.
Globally, around 450 million women across 114 low and middle-income countries use contraceptives but a Lockdown over Six Months could leave 47 million women in low- and middle-income countries unable to use modern contraceptives. This would lead to financial consequences and will have a telling effect in the wake of an expected economic slowdown in the coming months.
The Lockdown would also lead to an additional 31 million cases of gender-based violence, the report said.
