corona-effect-local-elections-in-andhra-pradesh-put-on-holdCoronavirus impact has finally reached Andhra Pradesh. The State Election Commission had decided to postpone the entire local elections process for Six Weeks due to the fear of Coronavirus spreading. After intense deliberations, the State Commission felt that there is a substantial risk due to the crores of citizens and several Government employees due to commonly touched surfaces and mass gatherings.

“Situations will be reviews after Six Weeks. We will conduct the elections only after normalcy prevails. The election process will begin after Six Weeks. We will announce a new schedule after that,” State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar told media.

The Election Commission had revealed that the Model Code of Conduct will continue until the election process is completed. This will ensure that all the development activities in the state to come to a standstill for a period of Two Months. The SEC also confirmed that the candidates who were elected unanimously will continue.

On the other side, Opposition Parties in Andhra Pradesh are demanding that the entire process should be scrapped and it should be conducted afresh from the state. Ruling Party will be very disappointed with this as they tried to finish the elections as per the schedule. So, that all the efforts will not go waste. They will take the solace from the fact that the process will not begin fresh.
