The Tale of the Two Telugu States with respect to the Coronavirus cases paints a completely different picture. Andhra Pradesh has overtaken Telangana today in the total number of cases. While Andhra Pradesh has 1016 cases, Telangana just got 990 cases. Remember AP started very slow but is ahead of Telangana now.
It is not just about the cases. Telangana seems to be flattening the curve in the last four days and the cases are on a constant rise during the same period. Andhra Pradesh witnessed 50+ cases on all four days (56, 80, 63, and 61). There is no light at the end of the tunnel, one can say.
Telangana managed to keep it low (15, 27, 13, and 7) during the same period. If the trend continues for 3-4 days, we can assume Telangana managed to flatten the curve. However, there is a debate on this as well. AP claims that it has done tests more than any other state in the country and that is the reason for their high numbers.
But there are allegations that AP’s testing numbers are including the anti-body tests which are proven to be less useful in Corona case detection. AP Government neither confirms nor denies this allegation until now. Telangana confirms that it is only performing RT-PCR Kit known for their accuracy.
“We are testing much below our capacity because we do not get patients who fit in the criteria. It is like you have a few people with the Corona issue, so you perform lower number tests. That is actually good news,” an official of Telangana Government says.
