Congress Party which hoped to save its face by at least winning a deposit in Warangal by-elections, fell short of the 6% of total votes needed for getting the deposit. The party had to contend with the distant second position which will not bring cheer to it given the more than 4.5 Lakh votes difference between the first and second.
Congress hoped big to bag this seat banking on a ‘not anywhere seen’ anti-government vote. Further its campaign got derailed after its candidate, Siricilla Rajaiah got arrested in the last minute in a family issue. The party had to bring in an outside candidate in the last minute which proved to be detrimental for the party in the elections.
The grand old party had fielded national level leaders like former Union Ministers and Former Speaker for the campaigning to invoke sentiment of passing Telangana bill by blacking out the Lok Sabha when they are power. But the sentiment seem to be still in favour of the ruling TRS party.
