Despite registering a decent two seats win in the recent MLC elections, Congress Party is still on the verge of losing its status as the main opposition party in the Telangana Legislative Council.
Five of the party’s MLCs are in talks with TRS which brings Congress four less than the required mark to hold the leader of opposition (LoP) post in the House. Telangana Legislative council have 40 members.
According to the rule book, the party needs at least 10 per cent of the total strength to be the main opposition. Currently Congress has 10 of them if not for TRS’ Operation Akarsha.
