Congress Senior Leader, Mani Shankar AiyarCongress Party is still licking the wounds Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation has inflicted on it. Speaking at a meeting of Homage for Congress Veteran, Jaipal Reddy, Congress Senior Leader, Manishankar Aiyyar made some comments reflecting that Congress is still repenting the Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

“I think it’s a great tragedy that his (Jaipal Reddy)political life was ended not by an action of his own but by a decision of govt to split Andhra Pradesh which has left Congress without a single seat in Andhra&Telangana. It was a serious strategic error,” Aiyyar said.

The mention of the Bifurcation as Serious Strategic Error indicates how Congress feels the bifurcation has backfired on it. Congress Party was in the Power in United State for two terms in a row then. There is severe anti-incumbency and just before the 2014 elections, Congress felt granting the state would ensure that it would reap dividends in Telangana.

Congress high command has trusted KCR’s word of merging TRS and sacrificed its prospects in Seemandhra. But then, Congress lost power in both states. In Telangana, the party is in the Opposition for two times in a row and in Seemandhra, it has drawn a blank for two terms in a row. Losing Power in Delhi made things worse. So, Congress calls it a Serious Strategic Error even today.
