ys jagan local elections - coronavirusCoronavirus scare is gripping the entire country. The total number of cases reached 110 and several states are put under shutdown to prevent community spreading. Telangana Government had decided to turn GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Gachibowli as Quarantine center.

The stadium with 5000 people capacity will turn into a 50-bed Coronavirus isolation center in the next 2 days. In Andhra Pradesh, it is totally a different scenario. The State Government is focused on completing the local elections in which the Ruling Party has an edge.

After CM Jagan criticizing the Election Commissioner of Caste bias for postponing local elections, the Government had taken further steps today. Chief Secretary Neelam Sahani had written a letter to the State Election Commission saying that everything is under control in Andhra Pradesh for the next three weeks and the elections should happen as per the schedule.

One can wonder how she decided that there are no chances of Corona turning into an epidemic for three weeks. Based on the Chief Minister’s Complaint the other day, the State Election Commissioner, N Ramesh Kumar met Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan and explained the rationale behind the postponement.

On the other side, two ruling party sympathizers have filed a lunch motion petition in Andhra Pradesh High Court asking that the elections should be conducted as per the schedule. “Come what may, the Government is focused only on elections. The health of the citizens and their safety is the least priority for the Government,” several people in the social media criticize.
