YSR Congress is making full use of the churches in Andhra Pradesh to woo Christian voters towards them. The party has substantial base in the community as Rajasekhar Reddy’s family is converted Christians. The Party and the some of the already influenced Pasters supported the party and its candidates in the Sunday prayers in most places of Andhra Pradesh. There are several incidents in the past few days where YSR Congress leaders are caught doing campaign in Churches and distributing money in the holy shrines.
On the other side, For the first time, the Andhra Pradesh Federation of Churches has issued a ‘Pastoral Letter’ urging all its members to elect leaders who uphold secular and pluralistic character of our nation and promote communal harmony. Experts say voting for the secular meaning have an indirect reference to the support for Congress/ YSR Congress.
