The train robbery of about Rs 6 crores by drilling a hole on the roof of a train carriage on Tuesday left a shocking impact on the Railway of India. The money, which was being delivered to Chennai from Salem, belonged to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and an investigation is being carried out presently by 7 special teams which include the Tamil Nadu Police, along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP).
While there are several speculations as to how the robbery was conducted, the most likely one is that there was an insider helping the robbers with the train’s structure. It was also revealed that the robbers only took Rs 500 notes leaving lower denomination currency cash behind.
This bold and outrageous robbery reminds us of some of the brazen film robberies featured in the ‘Dhoom’ series or the Shankar directed super hit movie ‘Gentlemen’.
