Chandrababu Vs Jagan Who Borrowed MostThe financial position of Andhra Pradesh is being discussed everywhere these days. There is widespread criticism about the gross financial indiscipline of the state government. Keeping aside the criticism, it comes as a shock how the government could not pay salaries and pensions for employees at least in the first week of every month.

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy hits back asking which government will not take loans and after all, the money is to pass on the people (via welfare schemes). That brings us to the question of which government has borrowed the most.

We compare the last three years of Chandrababu’s rule and the first three years of Jagan’s rule (third year still in progress. From 2016-17 to 2018-19, the then Chandrababu Naidu Government has borrowed 86,907.72 Crore Rupees. Jagan Government from 2019-20 to 2021-22 (Only till April i.e., only one month of the financial year) has borrowed 114,562.07 Crore Rupees (1.14 Lakh Crore).

That means Jagan Government has borrowed more than 75% of the loans Chandrababu Naidu’s Government has borrowed in its last three years. Moreover, this is only two years and one month of Jagan’s Government.

In the year 2018-19, the Chandrababu government has borrowed the highest of its term (38282.83 Crore) and Jagan Government has borrowed 39,686.56 Crore in its first year itself and a whopping 55,161.51 Crore in the second year.
