Andhra Pradesh Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act - Chandrababu World Bank had recently adjudged Andhra Pradesh as the Number One State in implementing energy conservation and efficiency measures in the country. Buoyed with the Prestigious recognition, Andhra Pradesh is now set to enact a legislation to consolidate the gains and ensure sustainability.

The state government is working on a model Act for energy efficiency and conservation in the state in tune with the recommendation of the World Bank. Energy efficiency programs in the country so far did not have any legislative backing but the proposed law would make energy conservation and efficiency mandatory.

This new legislation will make use of star-rated appliances mandatory and incentivise the users. There could also be penalties for not using star-rated appliances. This can be called as one of the biggest modern day reform in the power sector and Andhra Pradesh will be the first to lead the way.
