This is what Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu told Finance Minister Arun Jaitley last night when he met the latter in Delhi. “Situations are going out of hands. Help me once, I will give it back to the nation. Two years are over and further delay will lead to difficult situations. Don’t give a chance to others,” Naidu said.
Jaitley reportedly went on to say they are committed and working on a solution for the past 2-3 days. “We will help more than Special Status,” Jaitley told Naidu. There are also rumours that Jaitley put up 2-3 proposals before Naidu. The Chief Minister is meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today.
TDP MPs will be meeting the Prime Minister later in the afternoon. A special category state gets preferential treatment in federal assistance and tax breaks. The special-category states get significant excise duty concessions, persuading industry to relocate/locate manufacturing within their territory. 30% of the Centre’s gross budgetary support for Plan expenditure goes to special-category states. 90% of Plan assistance was given as grants and only 10% as loans.
