Telugu Desam Party is doing all that it can to weaken YSR Congress in Pulivendula and one more attempt will be with the upcoming Delimitation. Pulivendula may get split into two in the reorganisation process for the upcoming polls in 2019.
Two mandals from Pulivendula and two more mandals from Jammalamadugu Assembly segments could be redrawn and realigned to make a new constituency. This will make Jagan Mohan Reddy’s winning chances slim here. Pulivendula is known to be a stronghold of the YSR family.
While former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy won three successive elections in 1999, 2004 and 2009, his younger brother, YS Vivekananda Reddy was the elected representative from the constituency for a decade before that. After YSR’s death, his wife Vijayamma, won in the 2011 polls, while his son Jaganmohan Reddy has been the representative since the 2014 elections.
