Ap CM Chandrababu Naidu set up the first meeting on Thursday as a part of directing the country towards a cashless economy. Niti Ayog Vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya was appointed to route a plan for the promotion of digital transactions over the country. Officials from Central committee have been involved in the meeting via video conference.
The meeting discussed all the possible options to go for digital payments like credit, debit cards, Aadhaar enabled payments, e-wallets et.c The panel comprised of six Chief Ministers and the meeting was held at Niti Aayog office. Officials said that the agenda includes making villages aware of and to impart cashless transactions and a massive education campaign could be conducted for promoting the digital payment system to every corner.
Panel members discussed the status of the current mobile network to work towards mobile banking and the facility available in the country to spread awareness via online campaigns. Naidu asked Nilekani to provide a report on the same by next meeting. Reports say that Naidu’s plan is to educate people on e-payments and mobile/net banking by every possible means.The meeting assigned respective tasks to various members of the panel mostly to draft the road map for the digital economy goal to be achieved.
