Andhra Pradesh government had appointed Senior IPS Office, Anjana Sinha as the state-level officer to deal with crime against women. Sinha is given an Additional Director General of Police-rank and the government had issued an order regarding her appointment on Friday. This is one of the promised made by Chandrababu Naidu during his 2000 kms walkathon in 2012-13.
Naidu has proposed this idea to all state governments in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya incident in New Delhi to appoint an Inspector General of Police-rank officer exclusively for prevention of crime against women. The appointment is delayed due to the scarcity of AIS officers after the state bifurcation.
Naidu who always maintains that Law and Order is his top priority, has got immense following with Women voters since the start. He always reiterated that women safety and rights are the top most agenda of his government.
