Central government had turned down its funding for the proposed Metro Projects in Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation MD Sreedharan prepared the project DPRs and they were sent to the Union government’s approval recently.
However Center turned down the funding requests citing that these projects will not financially viable. Center opined that population in these cities are not as high to require a metro train. Also these routes will not attract 10 Lakh passengers per day by 2019-2020.
The then Union government had granted Metro projects to Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam during the state bifurcation and with the new government, one more promise had gone to dogs. Interestingly this is headed by Union Urban Development ministry of our own Venkaiah Naidu.
