Center To Take Back Polavaram Project? The controversy surrounding the Polavaram Project may bring a major change. Central Government which has vehemently opposed Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Government move to cancel the existing tenders and go for re-tendering, is going to take out the Project totally out of the State Government’s Hand.

Polavaram is a National Project whose construction is supposed to be taken up by the Central Government. But way back in 2014, NITI Aayog has recommended the State Government to take up to ensure speedy completion. Knowing about the slow pace of National Projects, the then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took it up.

The State Government has been spending the money for the construction and later, the Central Government is reimbursing the funds after auditing the accounts. Narendra Modi Government has troubled Chandrababu by not reimbursing the bills on time and later accusing corruption even though the bills are reimbursed only after auditing by the Polavaram Project Authority.

The National Projects taken up by the Central Government did not even register a quarter of what Polavaram achieved in the last five years. BJP now wants to take the construction so that it can take the credit of the Project completion.
